“On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…” We all know the Christmas song, but I’m changing it up a bit. My song is called the “12 Practices of the Holidays”. Even if you do not celebrate Christmas, perhaps you celebrate Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or something else, these practices will work for you. I hope you enjoy!
Day 8
The eighth practice of the Holidays is—PRACTICE MINDFULNESS. Now, this is the only practice, where I encourage you to think of yourself first. Everything else will follow. For those of you who do not know what mindfulness is, it is defined as a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique. For my mindfulness practice, I love meditation. Others may enjoy yoga, exercise, or just reflecting on themselves. To achieve the inner peace that mindfulness brings will be the best gift you can give yourself. It is a nice escape from all the craziness at this time of year.
