We all have seen those posts on social media that show everyone sitting at the dinner table is “just one big happy family”.
Well, wait a minute. I’m sure we all remember those family dinners.
You know, the ones where Uncle Al talks non-stop about his glory days as an “actor”-it’s all about him; Aunt Nell just sits and complains about everything, the food, the weather, her lot in life. And how about your brother, Ike (I Know Everything)? If you have seen it, he’s seen bigger and better, if you have done it, he’s done more. Then who can forget Grandma Sally? She agrees with everyone, causes no problems, and is as sweet as pie. But then there’s my favorite, Cousin Billy or should I say, Bully? Billy intimidates everyone, shows no manners or respect for anyone.
Well, Association living is a lot like that one big happy family dinner. Many personalities are all living under one roof or community. Where opinions are plentiful, but actions are few. Where some exhibit kindness and consideration towards others while some have an I don’t care or a me-first attitude. We see the helper bees along with the stinging bees. A real mixture of personalities, lifestyles, and experiences.
But, all these differences can make a strong Association. Personalities as well as individual’s talents can enhance the Association. Volunteer, be kinder to your neighbor, get involved. Be the one person in the family that everyone wants to spend time with.
Remember, we all have something to bring to the table. It just depends if you want to be at the table or be part of the menu.
